The Power of a Simple Gift

The girls and I made Christmas shoe boxes for a fundraiser called Operation Christmas Child that a couple of women have organized at Trent's work. It's through an organization called Samaritan's Purse-- you can read more about it here.

I thought that it would be a great opportunity for the girls to learn more about helping those in need. What better way to do that than to have them put together three shoe boxes full of All Things Princess, every bit of which they would love to keep for themselves, and then ask them to give it all away? They did manage to swipe a couple of lip glosses and some lollipops, but, in the end, they seemed to understand the significance of our gifts, and they seemed genuinely excited to deliver them. It's heartwarming to think of the three little girls in a faraway country who will be uplifted by their very own Princess shoe box. It's not a life-altering gift, but it's the kind of gift that can reach a lot of children. Samaritan's Purse has delivered over 63 million shoe boxes since 1993.

There are so many worthy causes, especially during the holidays, but I have to admit that this was one of my favorite outreach projects yet. Even if you can't make your own shoe box, you can still support this wonderful organization online by following this link.

The Power of a Simple Gift, indeed.

On behalf of Franklin Graham, thank you for your participation in Operation Christmas Child. It sounds like your girls had a lot of fun. We hope that you and your family are truly blessed as you bless children around the world.
