The Most Endearing Christmas Gift

We live in the original farmhouse in our neighborhood. It was built in 1912, and then the rest of the neighborhood was built up around our house during the 1950's. Our next-door neighbors, the "K's" built their house in the 50's and have been living there ever since. They're always really sweet to our three girls, and Mrs. K loves to give them what she calls "gummies," or gumdrops. The girls know that all they have to do is ring the doorbell (which they especially love to do right before dinner), and Mrs. K will send them running home with a handful of gummies.

This Christmas, one of the girls' gifts from the K's was a bag of gummies, with a really sweet card attached (it read, "Love to Our Sweet Girls"). Thanks for always being so kind to our three girls, Mr. and Mrs. K! We hope that you have the sweetest Christmas ever.

Santa baby, forgot to mention one little thing..

Sallie's last minute gift requests...obviously hurried because she's a better speller than this! I am pretty sure that she meant to include 'Peace on Earth' on her list!

ELIZA LOVE

Lately Eliza has taken to making cards and art for people that say "ELIZA LOVE (insert name)." It's so cute and endearing that I hope she never learns how to write "Eliza Loves" or "Love, Eliza."

Of Noble Employment

Sallie made this card for her teacher today after school. How could I not sneak it out of its envelope to share?

What nobler employment, or more valuable to the state,
than that of the [wo]man who instructs the rising generation.

Guerrilla Goodness!

When we took Sallie to school for her first day of kindergarten last year, someone had written encouraging sentiments on the sidewalk with chalk. I thought it was wonderful, and so I remembered it immediately when a friend sent me this blog a few weeks ago. We decided to get involved. It rained the day before the first day of school, so we went the following Sunday, the day before Eliza's first day at her new school. It gave her something to look forward to on her first day!

I love Patience's idea that "random kindness can change the world." In fact, I've always loved the idea of random acts of kindness, but to actually get out there and get involved was a wonderful feeling. I hope to involve the girls in more acts of guerrilla goodness!

(Interestingly enough, it turns out that Patience has a son who is in Sallie's class this year!)
