Early Morning Impromptu & Self-Directed Craft

Sallie was the first awake yesterday morning, and was instantly full of energy-- a veritable flurry of creativity. Paper. Pens. Scissors. Tape. Questions. Questions. Questions.

"Mom, how do you write the number that comes after 9?"

"A '1' and a '0,' Sal."

"And how do you write the number that comes after 10?"

All the way up to 31.

When she was finished, she had her very own handmade Advent Calendar, complete with a candy "box" to put the candy in. Never mind that most Advent Calendars come with little doors to monitor the actual intake of candy--a superfluous detail in the mind of a five-a-half-year old who has, for the past two mornings, talked her father into at least three pieces of candy for breakfast. (The photo hardly does it justice, but please note that the candy box has a "lid," and that Christmas Day is marked with a stocking!) So cute.

And that's a "G" for January, with the first 8 days of the New Year. (We're going to need more candy!)

Oh, to have that much energy and creativity at 7 o'clock in the morning!
