A Compelling Argument

I gave the girls a popsicle after school on Tuesday, and then Sallie came back inside and asked me if she could have a marshmallow Peep.

Me: "No, honey--you just had a popsicle."

Sallie: "The peeps are going bad, Mom. We need to eat them." (Peeps, as you may know, tend to get stale pretty quickly once you open the package).

Me: "Sorry, sweetie, but you could have chosen it instead of a popsicle."

Sallie: "But tomorrow is Earth Day."

Me: "What does that have to do with anything, Sal?"

Sallie: "It means that we're wasting food, and that's bad for the environment."

Me: "That's a pretty compelling argument, Sal. You can have one."

Sallie: "Because tomorrow's Earth Day?"

Me: "No, because I think you had a compelling argument."
